Sunrise Haven
Special Care Unit
Designed especially for those with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
People with dementia are a unique group. Because of cognitive impairment, services in a conventional care center are often not appropriate. Research has shown that people with dementia are more at ease in a small group, low stimulus environment. Too many people, too many sounds, or too many rooms to navigate are upsetting. They are more content when they have fewer decisions to make and less to confuse them. Residents who reside in a specialized facility such as Sunrise Haven tend to stabilize and their condition does not degenerate as rapidly.
Sunrise Haven, a 16-bed secure unit, is located on the east wing of Sunrise Hill. Around the clock quality healthcare and specialized programming are provided by specially trained staff. In addition, all of the resources available to a resident in the skilled nursing care facility are available to a Sunrise Haven resident.
Sunrise Haven features an "at home" atmosphere which encourages independent activities designed to meet individual needs and emphasizing remaining strengths and abilities. To assist in this "at home" feeling, each resident has a memory box where momentos of the person, family, and friends can be found.
